Following a rain event, 2,000 residents in Sullivan’s Island, SC have a new problem to solve.
After injection grouting and sealing their mainline pipe and service laterals, this standing water would have been swept away from a porous underground system collection system at high treatment cost to residents.
According to US-EPA, nationwide nearly 50% of the flow to WWTP is clean groundwater in the form of Infiltration & Inflow (I&I). That means twice the cost to treat, transport, and pump sewage. This excess cost is painful especially since the cost to seal and protect is recoverable in less than a year.
